I think today we just have more options on how we can get our media. There is everything from, T.V, internet, newspapers…I mean you can even get your media downloaded to your ipod or phone. I believe Americans consume more media today than they did 20 years ago simply because there is more of it. So that would mean that they consume it differently as well. As long as technology keeps gets better we will have better ways of receiving media. I am sure one day, not to far in the future, we will be able to watch T.V. in the glasses that we wear.

I vote there is a change in consumption patters and that we consume differently. Look at Americans, it's not like we're out doing something physical, we're still sitting on out butts. We just sit at the computer now instead of in front of the TV. Myself personally, I watch a LOT less TV that I used to, but I'm on the internet enough to make up for it. I never really got into watching the news, but now I don't get my news from TV at all, I get it from message boards online. I frequent two different boards, one with around 5000 members (local board) and a national one with around 20000 members. I just browse the general section on both of those and I'm caught up on the days events. Rather than channel surfing to find the channel with the best coverage, I just wait for two or three people to post links to online news sites and I'm set.

I think the consumption pattern of Americans has changed. People want convenient, easy to access products. Many people dont look to the paper print outs to get their news. They are now focused on the internet. I get my news from the internet and front page of big websites like Yahoo! or MSN. It is so easy to access this information and a minute by minute time frame. I can get the latest updates and video footage of anything I want. Many programs are posted online so that the viewer can easily view last nights show without the commercials. Consummers are still searching for the same thing they did 20 years ago, but the internet has made it much more convenient for the busy lifestyle of many Americans.

The media is a major influences in everyones lives, whether they know it or not. America is such a fast pace nation and whatever the fastes tor most conveinent way we can get the information, the better. I am extremely busy with school and everything, the only time I'm able to check the media is during my dead time of the day, when I am waiting for my next class by picking up a newspaper in the BA. Whenever i check my e-mail for the day, I also check the news on the internet to see what is going on in the world and often receive pop-ups of the latest stories.

I think that Americans consumer more media because Americans consume media differently. Comparing the number of viewers that watched TV twenty years ago to the number of viewers now doesn’t seem like a logical comparison. PCs did not exist nor impact viewers’ lives twenty years ago. On that note the fact that not just viewers but generally everyone must use a computer has changed the media. People don’t have to watch the news anymore to get it, they can get online. The internet has opened up a whole new channel for marketing and because the internet is basically the primary source for information now, the amount of media has increased and changed. I argue that because people are pretty much forced to use the internet as a form of communication and other things, and that is why Americans consume media differently. Because they consume media differently, aka using the internet, they are exposed to more media than TV or radio could ever generate. So the impact of having to consume information differently has in turn forced American voluntarily or involuntarily to consume more media than ever.
