Blogging Made Easy

You have dipped your big toe in the brave new cliched world of Web 2.0. Now, it is time to get your body wet, and work up to swimming.

On the page, you will see postings, and course announcements. Blog postings (i.e., things you want to respnod to) are tagged blog. Course stuff is tagged assignements, technology, etc. Feel free to post questions in the assignment area because I generally leave the comment section open.

You are encouraged to respond to postings tagged with blog. I am still figuring out tags specifically and Word Press in general. If there are no comments, then you will see No Comments. Click on it and you will get a box to write a comment.

If there are comments, you will see a number in front of the comments. Click on it and you will get a box to write a comment.

Before you respond, please read the post. You may want to read the linked articles, which are underlined. Please keep your postings civil, and free of personal attacks. I will delete those types of comments. You may disagree with someone.

Whether you agree or disagree, you need to defend your argument. If you disagree, then you need to find the weakness or hole in the other person’s argument.

As I said in class, this semester I am encouraging students to start a blog post. If you are new to blogging, you should hang back for a little bit. Read some of the blog postings at this site and other blogs too.

If you have more questions, please start with the Word Press forums and faqs. They are fairly simple to navigate. Start here for generic posting questions.

Now for the nitty, gritty stuff.

You have until April 6 to make all your comments. After April 6, the comment feature will be closed on all postings. Also, you have until March 2 to post half your comments. You cannot post more comments after March 2 than you did before March 2. For example, by March 2, you wrote 5 comments. From March 3 to April, you can write no more than 5 comments.

As I said, I am encouraging you guys to start blog discussions. You can count discussions that you start provided three (3), seperate students respond to your blog discussion. Their response will also count.

Only one response per blog discussion will count.

I feel like I am writing rules for the NCAA or the IRS. ;)

For the good stuff:
If you post zero (0) times, then you get 0 points.

If you post 1 – 7 times, then you get 10 points.

If you post 8 – 10 times, then you get 15 points.

If you post 11 or more times, then you get 20 points.

Also, you can get up to 5 points for the overall quality of your blog discussions, and comments. In other words, I am providing an incentive for you to type and comment better than the standard text message.

Wow, I was not aware of all the work I had to do just to post this “blog comment”. I had first read the instructions to find the form to fill out, because it was not at the bottom of the page, where I thought it might be. Then filling out the form I had to go back and forth three times to my email account to find the password it selected for me. So now I can write on comments like this. Yippee! I would rather have to only remember one ID and one Password. If I looked at all the passwords and ID’s I have just for school alone, it is quite annoying. I would like to have one for this site it would make things easier to store in my long term memory bank; I could have a stronger relationship between the stimuli! LOL I hope this works for you! How will I know if it did?

This blogging stuff, though it may be easy points, was quite difficult for me to figure out. I just now, at least I think, learned to do this. I posted a comment earlier in the semester, but couldn’t tell if it counted. I still don’t quite know if this counts. Someone should let me know.
